Glamping Wales

Vintage Glamping offers a collection of three original vintage wagons at Penrhiwgaled Farm, near the coastal town of New Quay in Wales. The Wagons include The Showman’s Home, Betsey Trotwood a horse drawn tram and The Gypsy Wagon, all of which are are over 70 years old and have many original features.

The glamping site is set in a four acre meadow with beautiful views over farmland and woods to the hills beyond. Our farm is just 2 miles from the coastal town of New Quay, with it’s beaches, harbour and famous dolphins so there is plenty to do. The farm is also home to two water buffalo which can often be seen relaxing in the fields and lake at the farm. Vintage Glamping allows you to combine the experience of living in these wonderful wagons from a bygone age with some modern comforts: as each one has their own private shower room with w.c. and wash hand basin

BETSEY TROTWOOD – Sleeps 2 adults
Betsey was originally a horse drawn tram dating back to the 1890’s, making her the oldest of the three wagons. Betsey was converted from a tram to a holiday home, called the ‘Bungavan’ during the 1930’s. She has been sympathetically restored with the original cupboards and dresser from those pre-war years. The design of the tram provides outside covered areas to sit and relax whilst enjoying the view and includes

  • Fridge/freezer and kettle
  • Basic set of cutlery, crockery, and pans
  • Electric heater
  • TV

  • The sofa converts into a 6’x 4′ double bed (taking 5 minutes to assemble). A curtain can be drawn across for privacy at night

All the original features have been kept including the raised bed which is only 3′ 2″ wide and 5’10” long, although there is also an additional sleeping area below which provides extra sleeping space for guests. The original cast iron stove, glass fronted cupboards, bench seats and chest of drawers make it a beautifully quaint place to stay. The wagon also includes

The cut glass windows, and the feature mirror showing a traction engine etched into the glass are some of the expensive details that those showmen commissioned to customise their wagons. Some of the original gaslight fittings are still there, however the wagon now runs off electricity and has a modern wood burning stove.
