Best Glamping mini breaks in North Devon

A mini break to North Devon this summer gave us amazing weather and scenery.  The rocky cliffs and dramatic rocks of North Devon looking out to the Atlantic saw some bright sunny beach days and spectacular sunsets.

This year we glamped in a caravan. Having not spent any time in a caravan so far we were amazed at all the mod cons you can fit into such a small space. A comfy double bed with plenty of storage and even an en suite, a further twin room, bathroom, full kitchen with dining room table and living area with entertainment.  Outside was a decked area with picnic table and we were more than happy with lovely views over the Atlantic. Plenty of space for up to a family of four or and for two of us we had more space than we needed.  Perfect for an exploring base as we discovered what the area had to offer.

The north Devon coastline has numerous pretty villages towns as well as some quaint seaside resorts.  Try Croyde Bay and Westward Ho! for surfing. Westward Ho! has a surf school too.  Appledore and Instow are beautiful little villages with some really wonderful eateries, gastro pubs, delis and beach.  Our favourites included The Boathouse at Instow for gastro pub seafood and the amazing selection of local produce and bakes at Johns of Instow.  You can’t come to North Devon without trying Hockings Ice cream, made with local clotted cream.

One of the most famous tourist attractions of the North Devon coast has to be Clovelly.  At the top of the village is it’s visitors attraction centre and you do have pay to get into the village. from here you can take the very steep cobbled walk down to the harbour where you will pass the museum, shops, cafes and some spectacular views down to the sea.  At the foot of the hill is the Harbour, where you can tae a dip off the jetty or sit with a glass of wine looking out to see.  The walk back up is very steep but if you can’t make it, take the landrover or pony service!

Don’t leave North Devon without taking some long beautiful walks.  There are numerous options and we walked the cliffs from Westward Ho! to Bucks Mills with some amazing views of the sea and cliffs below and across the burrows to Appledore, a delightful village with pretty cottages, lovely pubs, a seafront where children crabbed and the famous Hockings Ice cream van!
